I came across this interesting article on Twitter vs Facebook and how different social media sites are used by different groups of people based on age, location, etc. My goddaughter, for example, invited me to join Hi5 a year or so ago but I didn’t know anyone else using it so I never did anything. From [...]
I think a good rule of thumb for people or businesses is to underpromise and overdeliver. Back when I owned a Saturn, for example, they did a great job at this. I consistently found myself impressed with the service they delivered, usually ahead of schedule. Anyway, I found myself thinking about this as I evaluate [...]
The company I work for has 2 corporate blogs right now, one penned by the CEO and one that has three separate contributors. The active blogger of that bunch is very good at tying things back to our business and genuinely seems to enjoy blogging. He was making a comparison the other day in his [...]
As part of our ongoing efforts to implement best marketing practices, we are creating an opt-in email list for our email marketing efforts. When I first started with the company, they had a database of 30,000 to whom they were sending email “blasts”. We knew all 30,000 people hadn’t opted in, so basically we were spamming (spam [...]
A few weeks ago I blogged about a new favorite addiction of mine — Wordle. Well, I have a new addiction that I love even more than Wordle — the Visual Thesaurus! You simply put in a word and shows the meaning of the word and related words. For example, I put in “marketing” and [...]
While many people out there extol the virtues of social media, there is a downside if you’re not careful. People need to remember that everything you post online is available for anyone to view and while Twitter, for example, is a great medium for sharing your personal news, you can find yourself in hot water. [...]
My parents were in town today and they mentioned the article from last week’s paper. My dad says, “So what was that article about?” and I explained Twitter to him. His first question was “Well how is that different from instant messaging?” A decent enough question so I explained it further. He didn’t seem too interested [...]
In the ongoing quest to improve my company’s online presence, we kicked off the discussions today with a consultant for phase 2 of our website improvement. Phase 1 consisted of a redesigned home page, now the second phase is to redo the “guts” of the site. A much bigger undertaking with even bigger goals. We want [...]
A colleague and I are in the process of creating an opt-in email list for our company and we’re running into a few issues: 1) a general lack of knowledge of best practices when it comes to e-mail marketing which is understandable given that the others don’t have a background in marketing, 2) the desire to keep [...]
Thanks to Digital Solid, I stumbled across this interesting website today where visitors navigate the site without clicking. It’s pretty interesting. It didn’t take me very long to get used to this concept (in fact, once I clicked for the last time upon entering the site, I didn’t click again — honest!!). As I work to [...]
The Daily Krier is running commentary on what's happening in my life on a regular basis. I write about things that interest me -- my family, my hobbies, my career in marketing. The blog was born from my interest in writing, my need to become more involved in all things related to social media, and my desire to start on my personal brand. The blog title is a play on my last name. It's technically pronounced "kreer" but everyone pronounces it as "cry-er". The mis-pronounciation lends itself extremely well to the title, don't you think?
